Getting Dramatic
at the PLAY Program

For the month of March, the Hudson Gardens turned its attention to the theatrical arts for a change. Students were introduced to the work of Shakespeare and picked a character that they most resonated with. Students compressed page long speeches, putting the best bits into performable pieces. Sentence by sentence, PLAY kids took their characters and made them truly real. More than anything, students learned public speaking skills that will give them advantages in their education and future careers.

At the Holland Gardens, PLAY kids put their Shakespeare skills to the test by recreating MacBeth, a famous Shakespearean tragedy. Based on passages from the play, students reimagined its characters, drawing puppets to perform with. Besides the visual art achievements of the character and set design; students worked on their memorization skills as they recited speeches for their parents and peers.
